Privacy

Hit for Six is a free game. It has no accounts, no advertising, no trackers and no third-party scripts. This page says what it keeps, in plain words.

On your device

The game stores a few things in your browser's local storage so that it can remember you next visit: your sound setting, whether you have seen the card at the door, your daily streak, the Career Ledger from same-device matches, seat tickets for any Test by Post you are playing, and — if you have posted to the Averages — the name you chose and a random number that stands for your device. None of this leaves your browser unless you post, play by post, or copy a result to share. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it.

The Averages

When you post a Daily XI to the Averages, the game sends the day's challenge code, your chosen name and your device number to a Macguffin Co. endpoint hosted on Netlify. The book replays the code with the game's own engine and keeps: the name, the device number, the day, the deck, and the tally it computed. It never receives a score from your device. Names are public on the board; the device number is not shown to anyone. Posts are rate-limited by network address for an hour, and the address is then discarded.

Test by Post

A match by post keeps, on the same endpoint, the wire code, each seat's chosen name, a private seat token, and the change masks each seat plays each over. Only those decisions travel; every device works out the standings itself.

Hosting

The site is served by Netlify, which keeps ordinary server logs and aggregate, cookie-free visit counts for the site owner. Netlify's own privacy terms apply to that hosting.

Cricket data

Career figures are compiled from Cricsheet ball-by-ball data (cricsheet.org) under the Open Data Commons Attribution Licence. No photograph, likeness or badge appears on any card; cricketers are shown by initials and figures only.

Children

The game is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone beyond what is described above. A name posted to the Averages is public; choose one you are happy to see on a board.
